Recognition only means something when it is run well. The Awards Committee carries ALA’s three award programs from the call for entries to the moment the envelope opens at the gala, and guards the standard that makes an ALA award worth winning.

The committee’s charge

Design Awards

The flagship program: categories, jury coordination, entry review, and the November gala at which the profession’s best work is honored.

Student Merit Awards

Scholarship awards judged blind, giving students their first professional jury and their first line of recognition.

Napkin Sketch Awards

The competition that celebrates architecture at its purest: a pen, a napkin, and an idea, unveiled each year at the gala.
